Updated lighting
31-
Hello Blog! Today we’re going to talk about lighting used in our film.
First let’s start with our films genre.
Our original film was going to follow the conventions of thriller and teenage drama films. However, we’ve changed most of our film to focus more on the thriller and horror genres, only adopting a bit of teenage drama conventions. Our opener is still very lighthearted and upbeat so we used a light that will properly represent that, daylight. However instead of using natural sunlight throughout the film we’ve decided to go for a darker look to create a tense atmosphere. In our second scene when Jasmine the main character goes downstairs its mostly dark. We shut all the curtains in such a way that only a bit of sunlight peaks through, creating a perfect background.
Later in the film Jasmine goes outside to look for her boyfriend and the only light used is daylight. However, we believed the light outside too bright to correctly portray the scene how we wanted so Nyles edited the scene changing the color pallet along with the white balance. After this scene Jasmine goes back inside and this is when the horror/thriller genre conventions really start to show. All our curtains are closed to create that blacked our tense environment which leaves the reader curious as to what will happen next.
Thanks for reading!! Stay tuned for my next blog.
