Editing part 2

Hello guys, Welcome back!!

Today we’ll be discussing our second round of editing. Personally, I haven’t been doing anything regarding editing only giving my input when needed since my group member Nyles is very skilled in that department. Editing has been time consuming taking about 3-4 hours in the span of 3 days. Time has been spent color grading, creating sequences, and adjusting audio. Nyles has edited a multitude of personal projects in the past so with his experience in editing with Adobe Premiere Pro it didn’t take him too long to edit the film. We’d video call and talk about certain portions of the film in which we felt needed to be darker or lighter and he’d adjust it as needed. Courtney had a very specific vision when it came to the color grading, so she helped him adjust as needed to match the film as a whole.

While editing, Nyles realized the movie didn’t flow as well as it should’ve. The transition of the first two scenes(the montage to the story) and the transition between the last two scenes (Jasmine coming inside the house and being killed), weren’t molding together properly creating a feeling of being rushed. Nyles felt that since the film was taking place during the day and the story is about a murder (which typically takes place during the night) we should delete or at the least change our idea about certain scenes. I understood what he was getting at however Jonathan, Courtney and I wanted to incorporate the element of surprise and we felt filming during the day was the best way to do that. We discussed this for about 30 minutes and he expressed that he felt we were trying to do way too much within 2 minutes. I personally liked the idea of a happy intro then a significant change to a darker mood, but the idea REALLY didn’t sit right with Nyles. So, after he reviewed the film multiple times, he suggested we change the ending and remove the intro montage as he felt it would help the film feel more “natural” and “cohesive”. We ended up leaving this discussion unfinished as we all had other duties to attend to. Regardless of our different beliefs we all agreed that we are still confident in our ability to make sure our film will turn out beautifully.
