Camera shots/angles/movements

Welcome back everyone. Today we’ll be talking about the camera angles and shots used during our project.

Shot 1: Makeup (Close up)

In our first shot we utilize a close-up to focus on the action of our character. This shot is a part of our opening montage scene which is majority comprised of close ups and overhead angles. In the teenage dream/rom-com genre these shots are often used in order to grab the audiences attention. In this scene we really highlight her happy attitude and create a joyful environment. Creating such a happy environment reels the viewers and helps set up the shock factor that comes later in the film.

Shot 2: Receiving a phone call

In this scene Jasmine hears her phone ringing to she turns to the right and faces the phone. This low angle medium shot makes it so both her phone and her excited expression is noticeable. The phone shows a picture of her and a person who we can assume is her boyfriend due to her excited expression and her efforts to get ready. The camera was placed in such a way so the focus can be placed from her phone directly to her. The close distance of the camera and phone allows the viewers attention to be drawn to it. The medium shot shows her body language and facial expressions, which also alerts the audience that she is very excited to answer the call.

Shot 3: Walking down the stairs

This last shot is apart of a pan camera movement which shows jasmine walking down the stairs and toward the door after getting off the phone with Jonathan (her boyfriend). We utilized this shot to capture the change in lighting, and location. This shot shows the darker environment of downstairs and creates a huge contrast from earlier scenes. This darker environment not only warns the audience a massive change in pace is going to happen, but it also allows us to create a sense of familiarity for the upcoming scene.
