S.O.U.N.D
Hey all!!! Today we’re going to talk about the editing process regarding our sound. My group member Nyles is the one handling the majority of the editing. Me and our other members have been giving our input when needed and helping Nyles switch around certain edits. I’m more qualified to give input on elements like music and the order of scenes. I’ve watched a lot of teenage drama movies and have recently rewatched a couple to analyze its conventions.
For most of our opener we used diegetic and ambient sound. We feel using both diegetic and ambient sound adds realism to the film which makes the film better as a whole. Non-diegetic sounds we used are for our background music and introduction music during our montage scene.
Another sound type we used in some of our scenes is asynchronous. We used it during one scene to show our main character answering a phone call. We did this by showing her body turn towards the phone to represent her hearing it ring, then we had the phone light up to signal a call and had her turn into a position in which she seemed like she was about to stand up. After we matched-cut into a different angle to show her standing up then sitting down to answer the phone call. We used this angle change to also change the location of the scene since we were originally filming her from a sitting position at a desk. We changed locations to the bed where she answered the phone call and started another scene. The new scene starts with her on the bed talking to her friends, which is the start of the plot. The second time we used asynchronous sound was when Jasmine, our main character gets stabbed. Instead of showing the stabbing, we’re going to show Jonathan (her boyfriend and the killer) lifting the knife up to stab her and then pan the camera up while simultaneously hearing the stab and her scream.
