Vampire Diaries mise-en-scene
For this blog post I’ve decided to use one of my favorite tv show of all time…The vampire diaries!!!!
In this scene the intensity was shown not only by the setting but by the look on the actor’s (nina dobrevs) face. In this over the shoulder shot the scenery and outfits of the actors suggests its a formal ocassion. The mise-en-scene emphasizes romance and tension. The characters are framed in an intimate position, which shows an emotional relationship. Nina’s elegant earrings, blue dress, and wavy hairstyle helps to create the image of the environment.
This close up captures an intense and emotional moment through its mis-en-scene.The characters framing and close proximity shows a shared vulnerability. The desperate look on the actor Nina’s face which is amplified by the lighting. The golden lighting creates a glow suggesting a sense of danger. The background is blurred and seems earthy which leaves the audience to assume a secluded setting. The outfit that appears to be a suit and the womans disheleved hair shows control and chaos simultaneously.
This shots mis-en-scene emphasizes a sense of curiosity. Nina is framed in a medium close shot with her body turned slghtly to show hidden interest. Her gaze and smirk allows the reader to assume a playful mood. The natural lighting adds realism to the scene and her outfit blends in to the environment and setting of the scene. Additionally, the blurred background, that shows other students highlights her focus on stefan which shows her intense emotions towards him.
In this overhead shot the dramatic mise-en-scene higlights the intense feelings of sadness. The dim lighting emphasizes despair and loss. The framing creates the actors (bonnie and enzo) as the main focus so we can clearly see that she is cradling the corpse of someone she holds dearly. The above angle creates a sense of powerlessness, as well as the absence of props.
In this shot the bright natural lighting higlights the romantic tone in the scene. The white props shown symbolize purity and love which adds to the intensity of the scene. The focused expression on stefans face and happy expression on carolines adds dramatic tension to the scene as well..Both actors being positioned so closely and holding hands suggest love and unity which allows the audience to understand the scene better.
