The strength in the short film Roll Call was the humor. It had a very high school feel to it, especially with the actors of the characters. Additionally, the pace of the film moved quickly enough to catch and maintain interest, the voiceover also flowed easily .The weaknesses for this film was that the cinematography as a whole could have been more clear and sharp. Some of the shots had bad lighting, which made it harder to focus on the characters. Also, the sound quality seemed monotone which threw the storyline off a bit. Some suggestions for improvement would be to find different lights or different areas to record that have better lighting. To make the film more professional I’d add a few different angles maybe close-up shots. .
The strengths in the short film New Everything was the opening. The waking up to the first day of being at a new school allows for the changed scenery. Additionally, the background made the film feel more emotional. This made the story easy to follow. Some weaknesses in this film was most of the transitions to doing something new. It felt very sudden, which caused the build up of the film to break slightly. Some suggestions for improvement would be to have smoother transitions when switching between shots. I also believe more visuals would be better, as in showing the process of how he got to school.
The strengths of Dreamland was that the topic of the movie was really interesting. The beginning effectively made the setting a dreamlike atmosphere. The After Effects were also really good especially considering she produced this on her own. However,, the second half of the films pacing seemed off, certain scenes happened to fast while others had a slower pace., Also, there was some background noise which made it hard to concentrate on the scene currently happening I also believe using dialogue more often would've helped the scenes.. Some recommendations to improve would be the pacing and dialogue as I said earlier.
The strengths in Dear Lover was the emotional tone that was conveyed throughout the entire film. The acting was good, and the storyline was easy to follow. The lighting was very bright which made it feel romantic. However, the editing felt choppy at moments and scenes were cut off far too quickly. I also believe the credits in the beginning could've had more of a flare to them. Some suggestions for improvement are to have smoother transitions and less plain credits maybe add hearts or something that also has a romantic feel.
Out of all the films this is filled with the most action. The pacing of the film was very good especially compared to the rest of the films. I will say that the development of the characters wasn’t strong enough to form any connection with the audience. Some of the action shots were a bit unstable, which took away from the excitement us as the audience were supposed to feel. Som suggestions to improv this film would be to develop the characters more so the audience stays engaged.
